Lesson 4

Guarding the Heart: Using AI to Honor God, Not Replace Him

Heart, Eyes and Ready Feet.

Heart

Technology has always played a role in ministry—from the printing press spreading Bibles to radio and television broadcasts sharing the gospel worldwide. Today, AI offers new opportunities to support and expand ministry efforts: helping pastors research, organize community outreach, or create accessible content. However, like any powerful tool, AI demands spiritual guardrails. Using it wisely is akin to guarding against temptation in other areas of life. AI is not a human—it’s more like a sophisticated notebook or scheduling assistant. We must remember Scripture’s warning that “sacrifices made to idols are offered to demons” (1 Corinthians 10:20), so we cannot rule out spiritual dangers when engaging with AI. If you treat it as a god, it may very well become your god. It’s essential to remain discerning and prayerful about how AI influences our hearts and ministries because Ephesians 6:12 tells us there are powerful forces in high places battling over how AI is integrated into society.

Some churches and leaders have spoken up about the risks of overdependence on AI, especially when pastors rely on it to write sermons or bypass personal preparation. This concern isn’t about technology itself but about the heart posture behind its use. The issue often actually comes down to priorities. In a recent article, a woman explained, “Life is busy,” as a reason some pastors turn to AI to manage workload. While life can indeed get overwhelming, this reality points to a deeper spiritual need: God must be first, and shepherding is a sacred calling. The Holy Spirit is the ultimate guide and uses conviction, leading us to use tools like AI with humility, care, and dependence on Jesus—not as replacements for genuine faith and ministry.

EYES

God gave us eyes not just to witness what is happening in the world, but to spiritually see and discern the times (Matthew 16:3). With the rise of AI, we must recognize the growing infrastructure that aligns with what Revelation describes as the beast system—a global structure demanding allegiance.“...And it was given to him to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would even speak and cause as many as do not worship the image of the beast to be killed.”
Revelation 13:15

AI is likely to be one of the core technologies used in this coming system: constantly watching, analyzing, persuading, and eventually enforcing control. We’re already seeing signs—surveillance tech, smart cities, biometric ID systems, and emotion-detecting machines—all of which AI helps power. These are precursors that require Christian eyes to remain open and alert.

Ready Feet

Having eyes to see also means we carry the responsibility to act. We are not called to cower in fear but to proclaim the gospel more fervently. The early Church evangelized under Roman persecution; we, with the aid of modern tools, should be even more eager.

“The wealth of the wicked is laid up for the just.”
Proverbs 13:22 (KJV)

AI, while built by many with secular or anti-Christian motives, is a “wealth” in the form of knowledge, reach, and efficiency. Ministries, Christian entrepreneurs, and churches can leverage it But we must not squander this time of opportunity. When used wisely, AI can be a megaphone for the gospel, while we still have the freedom to speak.

We are living in a time where clear vision is critical. If our eyes are aligned with Christ, we’ll know how to walk in the light and how to shine it for others. Let’s not become blind to deception or distracted by comfort. Let us instead be bold witnesses, using today’s tools to share the eternal gospel—until the day we no longer can.
